Choosing the Right Rocking Chair for Your Patio Garden

How do you unwind yourself each day? For me, reading a book by the fireplace and rocking on my favorite glider rocking chair is the best way to let the stress melt away. My wife loves it too when she rocks on the chair and sings for the baby and watches it sleep easily. You can choose an outdoor rocking chair as well and rock in your lawn in the midst of nature watching the sky change into orange from blue. Most people think that rocking chairs were created in the last century but rocking chairs have been around since the 1700s. Some smart person observed a child playing with a rocking horse and envied at the amount of joy that it was getting from it. He thought why cant adults have a little bit of fun? So he added rockers to the bottom of reclining chairs and bingo, rocking chairs were born.

Since then, almost every American home has owned a rocking chair. Some of the most famous people in America have had their own share of pleasure courtesy the rocking chair. Yes, you got it right. I am talking about John. F. Kennedy fixation with his therapeutic rocking chair. This model was a rage in the 1960s and replicas of this model were created almost everyday. Since then rocking chairs have evolved with time and today there are hundreds of different types of rocking chairs. The good old wooden rocking chair is a rarity. It has been replaced by models which are the perfect combination of style and comfort. Rocking chairs have also made the transition from an indoor item to an outdoor furniture item. Yes, today people love to decorate their lawn with a garden rocking chair or a patio rocking chair. If you have made up your mind and are planning to head to a furniture gallery later this evening, then please read on for there are some very important topics coming up.

Tips for buyers

One of the first things that you need to decide is where you are going to place your rocking chair. Are you buying a rocking chair for the living room or are you buying one for the patio? An upholstered rocking chair is a good option if you are planning to keep it indoors. On the other hand a wooden rocking chair made of the best cedar wood or high quality teak wood should do wonders for your patio. The next thing is the space. Is there enough space in your room to place the rocking chair and ensuring that you do not bump into walls or furniture as you rock? One thing that most people overlook is the comfort factor. People have a feeling that since it is a rocking chair, it will be extremely comfortable no matter what kind of a chair it is. That is wrong. We all have different types of bodies and they react differently to different materials. This is one of the reasons why it is extremely important that you sit on the rocking chair and try it out before you choose it.

Analyzing the rocking movement

When you sit on the rocking chair, analyze the seating. Is the padding and the cushion comfortable enough? What about the arm rests? Are they comfortable and wide enough? Now start rocking the chair. Do you feel that you are about to topple backwards? Or is the rocking motion comfortable? How many times do you have to push to keep the chair rocking for a couple of minutes? Well designed chairs rock for about five to six minutes with one or two pushes. These factors will determine the amount of time that you spend on the chair.

Lastly, look at the budget and choose a chair that fits in your budget.
